Look What I Found!

Look what I found buried behind some boxes on shelf in my hubby's workshop.

A vintage travel trailer.

I bought this travel trailer kit about 15 years ago.  As you can see, I started working on it and then we decided to start a family, so the trailer found a home in a box and was packed away until yesterday.  I'm excited to have found it again and it looks like all of the parts are still around.

I don't remember much about this kit, but I do believe it was offered by a father/daughter duo and I think I found their name in Nutshell News.  There is a built-in table and seating, a cook-top and sink, and a bedroom with the tiniest bathroom facilities ever.  I am going to start back on it just as soon as I complete a bit more of the Tumbleweed House.

The front porch

Before you read today's post, I wanted to thank everyone who has sign up to follow my blog.  Before I started blogging, I never signed up as a follower.  Now, I am going back and signing up on many of the blogs that I read.  I realize that it is exciting to see the list of followers increase. 

So last night I worked on the front porch of the Tumbleweed House.  The porch is made of basswood, and I stained it a light, golden honey color.  Then, I sealed it with a coat of Future floor wax.  I really like the way that it turned out.

I then decided to decorate the front of the house, just to see what it might look like when it is finished.  I added a little terracotta planter/birdbath/bird feeder to the side.  I have add this piece for a long time just waiting for the perfect place to hang it.  Don't you love the tiny bird and the touch of turquoise?

Next, I hung the mailbox and the numbers for the address.  I wanted the address to be the year that I built the Tumbleweed House.  The numbers are a little crooked, but they are fine for now.

Dh did say that he would help me straighten the numbers.

Lastly, I added a birdhouse on a stand and a plant near the front door.  I think it looks pretty good so far.

Tumbleweed House

Tumbleweed House

I thought I would post several pictures of my current project, Tumbleweed House.  I used the dollhouse kit Lisa's Country Cottage by Houseworks.  I completed the build back in March during Spring Break, but since I am a teacher, the little cottage sat empty until May.

When I started decorating the inside, I envisioned a shabby chic style interior, complete with lots of distressed white furniture and pictures of Paris.  It seemed like every time I tried to add a shabby detail, something would happen and the shabbiness was lost.  I was getting no where fast.  So I finally "listened" to my cottage and began to embrace the whole Americana/Country Farm style.  The funny thing is that my real house is decorated in a country farm style!  In fact, many of the things that you see in the Tumbleweed House have a real life counterpart in my home. 

The downstairs area.

The downstairs is missing a sink and oven.  I want to build something to accommodate the small area that I have for them.

The upstairs area.

The upstairs is basically empty.  I would like to put a bed in there.  Right now, it is just holding extra things that I have acquired.

So, that is my Tumbleweed House.  It is far from complete and in a state of change almost daily.  Tomorrow, I will post pictures of the front porch, which I am painting in just a matter of minutes.
